Cross Country, Track
Everett Berg’s coaching career at OHS began in 1967 when he and his family moved to Owatonna . He continued coaching for the next 23 years • Coach Berg initiated the cross country programs at OHS, and coached the boys & girls teams, along with the boys track teams throughout his career • Coach Berg coached state championship teams for OHS in two different sports – girls cross country & boys track • To Coach Berg, every athlete on the team was important – and he had a coaching philosophy to support this…winning is great, but personal growth for the athlete was the ultimate goal.
While this approach to coaching might not coincide with the “winning is all that matters” philosophy – it is hard to argue with the success his teams had during his tenure.
